So... what's Subtext?
Subtext stands for the 'special' relationship between Xena and Gabrielle! Simply as that.
What do I think about the Subtext?
Do I think that Xena and Gabrielle are lovers? No, I don't think so.
I really believe its up to the viewers to decide whether if they're just best friends or lovers.
That was the point, the writers wanted us, the viewers, to decide for ourselves.
Lucy, Renee and Rob Tapert said on many interviews that they think
Xena and Gabrielle were Lovers.
But I
still don't believe it. I just see them as best friends, as soulmates who would do ANYTHING for each other.
What can I say? It's the kind of rare love you wish you had and dream about every night.
Xena:"Do you really believe that kind of love exists?"
Gabrielle:"That's what we all dream about, isn't it? Someone who looks so deeply into our soul that they'd find something worth dying for."
Oh, according to the two episodes; "Deja Vu All Over Again" & "Soul Possission"...yes, there is no doubt in my mind...they are gay.
